Wage increases 2009 - 2012

An agreement was reached on the 30th April 2009 which determines salary and other related increases applicable across the board for all person working within the Private Security Industry in South Africa.

The agreement, once Gazetted should be effective from 1 September 2009, and cover the period until the 31st August 2012.

Who signed this agreement?

This agreement was signed after lengthy negotiations between various industry role players.  This included representation by members acting on behalf of employers and employees.

All the parties were in agreement that this would be promulgated and become effective as soon as the Government has signed the Gazette for the new Security Industry Sectoral Determination.

  • Security services Employers Organization
  • SA National Security Employers Association
  • SAIDSA

On behalf of employees:

  • SATAWU
  • NASUWA
  • SAPSWU
  • SOCRAWU
  • DUSWO
  • SACSAWU
  • UPSWU
Current remuneration rates

Currently the rates for the various guarding categories are listed below:

PSIRA wages for 2008-2009

PSIRA wages for 2008-2009

Other remuneration or deductions
  • Sunday pay @ X1.5
  • Public holiday @ X1.5
  • Night shift allowance per shift R 3.00
  • Provident fund (after 7 months) 6.5 %
  • UIF 1 % of basic pay
  • Cleaning Allowance 1.85 p/w R 12.00
New remunerattion rates

It was agreed to increase the minimum salaries as outlined below:

PSIRA wages for 2009-2012

  • The rates of increase for year 2 & 3 are calculated according to the inflation rate + 2%
  • A minimum increase of 7.25% in year 2
  • A minimum increase of 7% in year 3
General
  • Grade E to fall away in YEAR 2
  • Area 4 will join with Area 3 in YEAR 2
Provident fund
  • to be increased to 7% in YEAR 2
  • to be increased to 7.5% in YEAR 3
  • Membership period reduced to 4 months
  • New employees get risk cover from date of employment
  • Membership remains compulsory
Allowances

These employees will receive an allowance of R 5.50 per shift

  • Mobile supervisors
  • Armed officers
  • Armed response officer
  • National Key Point
  • Controller

Night shift allowance:

  • R 4.00 in YEAR 1 and
  • R 5.00 in YEAR 2

Uniform cleaning allowance: R 15.00 per month

Maternity leave
  • Female S/O to be paid 34% of basic salary
Family responsibility leave

Increase from 3 days to 4 days in YEAR 2

Overtime

Need for overtime is solely at discretion of employer, and shall not exceed:

  • 3 hours in any day
  • Up to 48 hours per month
